Beth Sketch

beth sketch, originally uploaded by James Gillespie.

This is the original sketch study of Beth's face I did prior to putting pencil to wood. I'm sad that I did not document the process better I will try and do that with the next two or three paintings I am working on. I have received a lot of great feedback from people on Facebook where I posted the painting also.

On another note entirely I went to SoapScum Presents "The Crown Royals" the other night and it was brilliant again. These guys are batting 100 this season. They had a guest from Die-Nasty Improv in Edmonton. Hilarious fellow. I'll post some shots of him shortly.

Beth_Paint

Beth_Paint, originally uploaded by James Gillespie.

This is a painting done of my wife 7 months pregnant at the Winnipeg Folk Fest. Is is done un unprimed board of no particular quality and painted with a base layer of goauche, the main figure was done in oil and the backround was diffused a bit with acrylic. The pink outline is also done with acrylic.

Sorry for not posting for a while. In my real life job as a designer I have just launched the Canada's History website. I had a lot of valuable help from a large team of people but I did have a part in it's development. I will post about that in a bit.

I'm very proud of this painting and I am currently working on three more. That will round me out to 6 when they are done so I can look to complete another 14 before I tey to find a place to present them as my Winnipeg Folk Fest Series.

I have some sketches to post for this as well but I will do that later. I love you all, have a great day.

Peter Pan

Peter Pan, originally uploaded by James Gillespie.

That's right! Peter "Freaking" Pan. Pan the MAN!

The boy who never grew up. He is one of my favorite literary characters. Despite the extremely racist 1950's Disney animation, I still love this story, the book is even more incredible than any movie you've seen. J. M. Barrie really captures the immature, adventurous and mischievous nature of this amazing character. This is my favorite sketch of the bunch. I'll get on colouring these bad boys soon.

Tiger-Lily

Tiger-Lily, originally uploaded by James Gillespie.

Proud Tiger-Lily, I really like how she turned out. I think she looks really pretty but kind of irritated. Just like a teen girl should. One last character to some. I wonder if you can guess which one.

John and Micheal

John and Micheal, originally uploaded by James Gillespie.

The two brothers, in my world John does not go with a top hat or umbrella, he beats pirates to death with his bare hands.

Michel blinds them with cuteness and then bites their ankles. Not just pirates, he'll do that to anyone. He is a savage beast.

Wendybird

Wendy, originally uploaded by James Gillespie.

This is my representation of Wendy, I tried to keep her young looking but give a hint that she was so close to becoming a woman. I modernized her a bit by throwing her hair in front of her face which she would most likely not have been allowed to do in her time. But this is my vision of Peter Pan's characters, so I can do what I bloody like. I'm close to finishing the little paintings. It is more challenging than I expected but they are coming along. More sketches to come. Stay tuned.
